Macbook Pro Sd Card Slot Won&#39;t Work

There's even a video that explains how to put it in and pull it out a bit here. My work around so far has been to use an old imac to read the sd cards without any problem and then send the files from the sd card by mail and open them on my macbook pro with 10.13.1.

It should be going label up with the sandisk portion going into. For me sticking the sd card in and pulling it a bit out again ( just a few mm ) seems to get it mounted. But the sd card slot still won't work.

Perhaps it's a manufacturing defect and that adapter wasn't 'cut' right. The sd card slot becomes a hidden device (in device manager) and upon examination of it's properties it says the device is no longer.
